Horse breeding is genetically more complex than canine breeding. Only a small number of horse breeds, such as the Arabian, Thoroughbred and Friesian, have long established closed studbooks and highly distinct genomic signatures.

Many other well known breeds, including the Oldenburg, KWPN and Württemberger, operate open or partially open studbooks, allowing controlled introduction of new bloodlines to refine performance, conformation and temperament.

To reflect this complexity, your Horse Breed Composition Analysis is divided into two detailed sections:

Part 1: Identified Breeds & Breed Groups.

You will receive:

• Classification into relevant breed groups.

• A clear pie chart visualisation.

• Genetic clustering insights.

This section shows how much each breed or breed group contributes to your horse’s overall DNA composition.

Part 2: Breed Similarity Assessment.

This section identifies:

• The breed your horse most closely resembles genetically.

• Up to three additional genetically similar breeds.

• A similarity ranking based on genomic comparison.

Because of historical crossbreeding, the closest genetic match may not always align with the registered studbook, particularly in warmblood and sport horse populations.
